Scott County Precinct of Turkey Foot
Pages 209-210
That portion of Scott County, now known as Turkey Foot or Election Precinct No. 6, lies in the north central part of the county, with Big Eagle Precinct on the north, Harrison County on the east, Oxford Precinct on the south, and Lytle's Fork and Georgetown Precincts on the west. The land is rough and broken, but is quite productive, and well adapted to tobacco raising. The timber was, originally beech, hickory, ash, mulberry, black walnut, etc., The principal streams are the East and West Forks of Big Eagle, which rise in Oxford Precinct, and flowing northward unite in Turkey Foot Precinct, thus forming Big Eagle Creek. From this circumstance the precinct received its name - the fancied resemblance of the junction of these streams to a turkey's foot.
The settlement of Turkey Foot Precinct dates back to a period more than ninety years gone by. Of the early settlers of the country now embraced in this precinct, we may mention William Vance, Asher Hinton, Benjamin Carr, - Reed, William Price, Abraham Fields, Benjamin Peck, Edward Burgess, Peter Antle, John Gibson, Patrick Watson, John and P. Hyles, Cornelius Butler, James Sutton, Joshua Murphy, Joseph Leach and others. Mr. Vance settled near Turkey Foot Post Office in 1790, on the farm now owned by his son, Capt. Joe Vance; Mr. Hinton and Mr. Carr also settled about 1790, on farms now owned respectively by their sons. Reed settled near Turkey Foot Post Office about the same time. He has a son, Eben Reed, still living in the precinct; William Price also settled about the same time, on the place now owned by Thomas Hyles. Jocob Price, his son, lives in the precinct. These early settlers, with the others mentioned above, are all dead, but many of them have descendants in the neighborhood, who occupy the lands of their ancestors.

Union losses were 1500 killed or wounded and 2000 POWs. 20 pieces of Artillery captured.

Union Forces reinforced by General Churchill's division from Arkansas. Marched towards Pleasant Hill and encountered General A.J. Smith of the Union waiting with his forces.
The battle began about 4:00 PM and the Union Forces drove the Arkansas and Missouri divisions from the line. Scurry's brigade
had to reinforce. Battle closed as night fell and losses were in the number as at Mansfield. Union Forces retreated to the Gun boats.

Notes for Patrick Paul Price:
About 1891, Patrick Paul became ill with consumption. It was thought at the time that
the climate around Bandera, Tx. would bring about a cure so he went to Bandera hoping the climate would cure him. We know he was in Bandera in April, 1892. (We have a
copy of a letter he wrote from there) from what Amos was told, Paul (he was called Paul) realized he could not get well and he wanted to die and be buried at home
in Van Zandt County. He evidently made it home and is buried at Hiram Cemetery. His
grave is near his brother, J. M. Price. The grave was unmarked for years. Before Bill
Price died he took my mother to the cemetery and showed her where Paul was buried.
The story was told that Betty went with Paul to Bandera. When Paul knew he had to return home, Betty was expecting a baby and couldn't travel. We have no record of Betty
Getting back to Van Zandt Co. We have checked records in Bandera and could find no
Record of a birth or death of Elizabeth "Betty" Haley. Amos and Nora were left with
Their grand parents, William James & Mary Haley when Paul and Betty went to Bandera

I have a child harness that is marked with his name on it in the old family trunk. Richard wandered off the evening he died and after much searching, he was discovered dead. The death cerificate says he was found next to a swamp cooler that serviced a basement apartment. I had been told by family that he was electrocuted. The family had only been in Pasco for six weeks at the time of Richards death.

Sudden Death Comes To Small Pasco Boy Two Year Old Dies While Out At Play
Tragedy entered the home of Mr. And Mrs. Claude E. Johnson late Wednesday afternoon when their two and a half year old son, Finus Richard, died
suddenly. The body of the little boy was discovered in a neighboring backyard only a few minutes after he had left his own home in apparent good health.
No signs of violence or even of pain in death were evident and the only explanation is that he was striken with a heart attack.
An autopsy was performed but no evidence was found of any violence on his body or of the presence of any poison in his stomach. The parents said that he had
eaten a hearty meal only a short time ago and it is thought that a heart attack may have come from this.
The little boy was born March 12, 1942 in Pendleton and one of six children. The family had lived in Pasco at their Margaret street home for only six weeks.
Funeral services were held from the undertaking parlors Friday afternoon with Rev. C. T. Hatten in charge and burial was made in the local cemetery.
