James Scott was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada where he married Jean Love (Jeanne), she was also born in Scotland, and immigrated to Canada wither her parents in about 1841.
Two of their sons, James and John, were born in Canada.
In 1865 the Scott family immigrated to the United States of America and settled in the state of Michigan.
Mr. and Mr. Scott toiled together on a farm in Lenewee County, Michigan for 12 years where their son Benjamin was born.
In 1877 they moved their family to Gratiot County, Michigan and settled on a farm near Bannister, Michigan.
In 1894 Mr. and Mrs. Scott united with the Baptist Church at Bannister, Michigan.

***OBITUARY of Mrs. Jean (Love) Scott***
Mrs. James Scott died very suddenly at the family home east of town on Friday,
last, from ailments incident of old age.
The funeral occurred on Monday at 1 o'clock P. M. with the interment at Riverside
Cemetery.
Mrs. Jean (Love) Scott was born in Montrose Farfarshire, Scotland Dec. 8, 1834 and
died June 14, 1912 aged 77 years 6 months 6 days.
When 7 years of age she came to Niagara, Canada with her Parents.
She was married to James Scott Sept. 22, 1853.
To this union was born three sons, James Dear Scott of Colorado; John Scott of
Ionia, County, Michigan; and Benjamin Scott who resides at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott moved to Lenewee County, Michigan in May 1865, where they
toiled together for 12 years.
In 1877 they moved with their family to Gratiot County, Michigan where they
settled and toiled together on a farm near Bannister, Michigan until the Master
called her home.
She was born and raised in the Presbyterian faith, but about 18 years ago she
wither her husband united with the Baptist Church of this place.
The aged husband has lost a faithful, companion, the sons, grand children, and
great grand children a devoted mother.
She was a true and faithful Christian, and a kind and loving neighbor.
Funeral services were held at the home near Bannister, Michigan Monday afternoon,
June 17th. conducted by Reverend O. J. Golden, and her body was laid to rest in the
Riverside Cemetery.
The aged husband and sons have the sympathy of the entire community.
Servant of God, well done,
Thy gracious warfare's past,
The battle's fought, the victory won,
And thou art crowned at last.

We wish to express our thanks to our neighbors and friends for their kindness
at the burial of our dear mother, to Reverend Golden for the comforting words,
the singers for their beautiful hymns, and the Rebekahs and Lady Maccabees
and all others for the beautiful flowers.

Good Intent Rebekah Lodge Number 11, Elsie, Michigan. Our Beloved Sister,
Jeanne Scott died June 14, 1912.

Resolved, that in the death of our sister, the members of Good Intent Lodge
have lost a worthy sister, the husband a devoted wife and the children a kind
and Loving mother, one who regarded life by rules of "Friendship", "Love",
and "Truth". We feel that our loss is her infinite fain.
Resolved, that we tender the bereaved husband and children our sincere
sympathy in their deep affliction and assure them that we with them, share
their loss, hoeing that time, the great healer, may soften their grief and
that they may remember that "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall
be comforted." These words of our Redeemer should be a balm to every
stricken heart.
Resolved, that we drape our charter in mourning and in respect of our
deceased sister for a period of 30 days.
